As exotic pet shop we specialize in various types of reptile. The reptiles can be organised in different groups like; lizards, snakes, turtles/tortoises and crocodilians. Of course this doesn’t do the animals justice, cause even the lizards can be classified more than one group. We’ve got; Skinks, Gecko’s, monitor lizards, agamids, iguanids, chameleons and also the Tuatara which is a group in its own right. On the site we’ll be limiting ourselves towards the main groups.
Lizards are one of the most popular terrarium animal, the diversity is enormous and many species have been classified by science. All lizards however are cold blooded (although a few years ago, study revealed that Komodo dragons might have a physiology similar as that of warm blooded animals), which means that they warm their bodies by the surrounding temperatures. Therefore a good terrarium will always be fitted with heat emitting light bulbs, that might also give of UV radiation that is beneficial for the animals health. Most lizards bask in the sun for many hours and do this mostly by morning. A suitable terrarium will always be a reflection of the natural needs of the animals, size wise, the activity of a species is more important than its size in most cases. Also you should consider that the housing must be like the natural habitat of the animals and decorated in a way to show this using natural wood and plants. As a company we’re very keen on helping you obtain the right information by species so the animal as well as yourself can have a great hobby experience.
Snakes also find their way in our homes and just like lizards they’re a large number to choose from. Snakes can also be classified in various families and species and therefore it’s vital to get well informed before you obtain one, cause some get quit big and need lots of space. The bigger constrictors and venomous species aren’t for the beginner and should be avoided, but beside these species there’s plenty to choose from. Snakes differ from lizards in their lack of legs( although there are various legless lizards, the split tongue lets you know, you’re dealing with a snake). The body, like that of most reptiles is covered in scales which they shed during periods of growth. All snakes need there surrounding warmth to heat up and it’s necessary to have heat lamps, heat mats or cables. Many snakes are nocturnal so they benefit greatly when having many places to hide. Due to the fact that snakes don’t require much food and also don’t produce a lot of waste, they make pretty good pets. A lot of them are even very friendly.
Turtles and tortoises are a remarkable group of animals for various reasons, unfortunately it’s the most endangered group of vertebrate animals and many species face extinction. Due to this fact is always ways to carefully consider which species you want to own and if so that they’re bought through reliable channels. These animals are also anatomically very unique, they all have a specialized ribcage that has grown inside out to form its back shield, called the carapax. On the underside they also have a protective bony plate called the plastron. The carapax holds all the organs in place and gives the animal protection. We can group these animals in various categories like sea turtles, river turtles and the land dwelling tortoises. River turtles are mostly kept in captivity, but different types of tortoise are available. Most river turtles need a lot of space and are mostly predators, which make them harder to care for, than most tortoise species. The tortoise group are mainly herbivores. Always make sure that you’re correctly informed on the specific needs of any animal you buy. Most species need large terrariums and also sufficient heat and UV lighting. Food quality is especially important when dealing with younger animals and should be as fresh as possible, so dried food is only good for supplementation. Please take into account that many species have a very high life expectancy.
Crocodilians are less frequent in the hobby due to their large size and or often too dangerous to keep in captivity. Therefore the numbers are limited but this is also cause many species are endangered and can’t be sold and kept as pets. Some species do find their way in private collections and they’re the smaller types like the pygmy crocodile, and Cuvier’s cayman, sometimes we also find the spectacled cayman but they tend to grow to quite a big size. Due to this fact, we won’t go into further detail on the site, but for additional information we’re always available.
